Abstract:
This study dealt with the effect of apllying discovery learning method integrated
HOTS on the students’ writing achievement which is mainly aimed to investigate
the significant effect of applying discovery learning method integrated HOTS on
the students’ writing achievement in teaching writing analytical exposition text.
This research was conducted at SMK 2 TR SINAR HUSNI, Jalan Veteran Gang.
Utama Pasar V, Helvetia. The population of this research was the XI TITL grade
students of the academic year 2019/2020. There were 5 classes consisting 150
students. The samples consisted of 60 students were taken by using cluster
random sampling technique. The sample was divided into two groups, the
experimental group which consisted of 30 students taught by applying discovery
learning method integrated HOTS and the control group consisted of 30 students
by applying direct method. The instrument test was an essay test that consisted of
3 pictures and each group was given a pre-test, treatment and post-test. The data
were analyzed by using t-test formula and the result showed that to ≥ ttable which is
to was higher than ttable (12.73 ≥ 2.00) at α = 0.05 and df = 58. The null hypothesis
(Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Hα) was accepted. It means that
the students’ writing achievement in analytical exposition text was significantly
affected though applying discovery learning method integrated HOTS in which
the students also successfully obtained the indicators of HOTS terms namely C4
(Analyze), C5 (Evaluate), and C6 (Create).
