Abstract:
This study was attempted to investigate the effect of clustering technique on
students’ achievement in writing analytical exposition. The method used in this
study was experimental research design. This research had been conducted at
MAN 1 Medan Jalan William Iskandar No. 7B, Bantan Tim, Medan Tembung,
Kota Medan, Sumatera Utara. The population of this research were the second
grade in academic 2017/2018 which consisted of thirteen classes, the reseacher
took 2 classes by using cluster random sampling, XI MIA I was as the
experimental class that consisted of 46 students and XI MIA II was as the control
class which involved 46 students. Each class was given a pre-test, treatment, and
post-test. The control class was taught by using conventional method meanwhile
the experimental class was treated by using Clustering Technique. The instrument
of this research was written test. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula.
Then, the result showed that tobserve (3.22) was higher than ttable (1.99) with the
degree of freedom (df=90). It meant that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and
alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. In conclusion, there was the significant
effect on students’ achievement in writing analytical exposition by using
clustering technique.
