Abstract:
This research aimed to find out investigate based on objective of the study of
the students’ reading comprehension. The sample of this research was eight grade of
SMPN 42 Medan Titipapan at Academic Year 2017/2018. It consisted of two classes
included of experimental group was 28 students and control group was 28 students as
respondents. This research was conducted by using quantitative experimental research.
The instrument of the research was multiple choice tests including pre-test and posttest. The result of this research was the mean score of pre-test in experimental group
was 51 and the mean score of post-test was 75. Meanwhile, mean of pre-test in control
group was 51 and mean of post-test was 58. Thus, the t-test in this research was 12.06
and the t-table was 2.06 which used 0.05 as the significant level of this research.
Because the t-test value is higher than the t-table (12.06 > 2.06) so, the result of this
research was Ha is accepted. In other words, the result of this research, it can be
concluded that rap strategy can effect students’ reading comprehension on narrative
text. Indeed, it is recommended for English teacher to use this strategy in teaching
reading.
