Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the Mitoni ceremony using semiotic approach.
Technique of Analyzing Data Qualitative analysis used to examine the data. Data
reduction, data Display, and conclusion drawing are all components of qualitative
analysis. The researcher discussed the semiotics in the Mitoni ceremony of Javanese
culture, classifies the data and understands the meaning based on the theory used.
The researcher focuses on the meaning conveyed and how the action is described
so that the meaning can be interpreted. Especially in the Mitoni Ceremony in Java
culture for the pregnancy. This research was conducted to answer many people's
assumptions regarding the Mitoni Ceremony. The researcher used a semiotic
approach to conduct the signs that exist in Javanese culture.. Using the semiotic
theory of Daniel Chandler (2017) regarding the meaning of signs in a community
culture. The table percentage of the sign of Semiotic Types Frequency Percentage
are: Semiotic Symbolic 13 = 32.5 %, Semiotic Iconic 15 = 37.5% , Semiotic Index
12 = 30 %. Total 40 100% In the table, we could conclude that semiotic iconic
dominates the semiotic types. 15 signs out of 40 signs made semiotic symbolic
dominated the signs where the percentage was 37.5 %.
