Abstract:
This study aimed to determine the potential use of the chain writing method through an
AR Application to improve the writing skills of EFL students. This research design using
true experimental design relies on statistical analysis to prove a researcher’s hypothesis.
The population of this study includes 10th-grade students from SMA Muhammadiyah
Madrasah Aliyah 1 Medan in the 2024/2025 academic year. The researcher selected a
sample from classes XA and XB, consisting of 38 students in total. Data were collected
through chain writing tests, listening, and speaking activities. Two classes were used with
the intention of having one as the control group and the other as the experimental
group. The researcher aimed to engage all students in both listening and writing activities.
The study concludes that the use of AR applications can enhance students’ writing skills.
Data shows that 10 out of 18 students in the experimental class achieved a "High"
category, indicating that AR applications are effective in teaching both speaking and
writing skills to 10th grade students at SMA Muhammadiyah Madrasah Aliyah 1
Medan. This research could pave the way for future studies on the development of
teaching methods that integrate applications as teaching tools. The strategy could include
practical guidance for teachers on how to utilize AR applications as creative and
interactive teaching media.
