A STUDY OF POLITENESS STRATEGIES USED IN FIFA WORLD CUP OPENING CEREMONY 2022

Abstract

This research was sought to understand a certain phenomenon, namely the politeness strategies used in Opening Ceremony FIFA World Cup 2022. This research aims to describe the types of Politeness Strategies and the reasons of used Politeness Strategies in Opening Ceremony FIFA World Cup 2022. The data and source of the data was done collect from www.youtube.com. Thetechnique of this research was used descriptive Qualitative. There were four politeness strategies that mentioned by Brown and Levinson, they are Bald on Record, Positive Politeness, Negative Politeness and Off Record. The most dominant politeness strategy used was Positive Politeness with 43.75%. Another Politeness Strategy used was Negative Politeness (31,25 %), Bald on Record (12.05%) and Off Record (12.5%). The approach for analyzing the Politeness Strategies was based on Brown and Levinson’s Theory of Politeness.
