Abstract:
This research was aimed to find out describing information by using Picture
strategy of the students‟ achievement in learning reading text. The population of this
research was eight grades of SMP PAB 8 Sampali at Academic Year 2016/2017. It
consisted of one class with 37 students as samples in experimental group and one
class with 37 students in control group. The objective was to discover the significant
improvement of the students‟ achievement in describing information if the students
were taught by using Picture strategy. This research was conducted by using
quantitative research. The instrument of research was test including pre-test and posttest. Based on multiple choice tests, the students‟ score of experimental group keep
improving in every test. In the pre-test the mean score of experimental group was
53.15 while in the post-test the mean score was 83.78. Meanwhile, in pre-test,
students‟ score of control group was 50.27 and in the post-test, the students‟ score of
control group was 59.05. Furthermore, the t-test in this study was 17.29 and the ttable was 2.00 which were used 0.05 as the significant level of this research. Because
the t-test value was higher than the t-table (17.29>2.00) so, the result of this research
was Ha is accepted. In other words, the result of this research concluded that
describing information through Picture strategy can effect students‟ achievement in
learning reading text. Indeed, it was recommended for teachers to apply this strategy
in teaching English, especially in teaching reading text.
