Abstract:
This research was carried out to investigate the effect of applying pair checks
method on the students‟ reading comprehension. The method of the reserach was
the experimental research method. The population of the study was the eight grade
(VIII) students of SMPN 2 Suro on JalanRimo Subullusalam Aceh Singkil in
academic year 2016/2017, which consist of two classes. They were VIII-1 and
VIII-2 class. The number of population were 60 students; the classes were divided
into two groups, namely experimental group and control group. All the population
was taken as the sample. The experimental group was taught by applying pair
checks method and the control group was taught by using reading method. The
instrument of research was multiple choice test. The multiple choice test consistes
of 20 items. The finding indicated that tc> tt or 3.232 > 2.000 the finding of the
research showed that there was a significant effect of applying pair checks method
on the students‟ reading comprehension because tc was higher that tt ( 3,232 >
2.000 ). It meant that alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. The percentage of
the effect of applying pair checks method on the students‟ reading comprehension
was 98.01% and 1.99% from other factors.
