Abstract:
This study deals with the effect of making predictions and inferences teaching
strategy to students‟ in narrative text. The objective of the study was to find out
the significant effect of making predictions and inferences teaching strategy to
students‟ reading comprehension in narrative text. This study was an experimental
research. This study conducts at SMK N 5 Medan Jalan Timor. The population
was the tenth grade classes of the academic year 2019/2020 which consisted of 3
classes. This study takes 2 classes by using prediction and inferences strategy to
text method, X-TGB 1 was as the experimental class that consisted 28 students
and X-TGB 2 was as the control class which involved 30 students. Each class
given a pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The control class was taugh by using
lecture method meanwhile the experimental class was treated by using predictions
and inferences strategy to text method. The instrument of research was essay. The
data was analyzed by using t-test formula. Then, the result showed that
(6,14) was higher than (2,00) with the degree of freedom (df=56) for twotailed test (6,14 ≥ 2.00). It means that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and
alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, in conclusion, there was the significant
effect on the students ability in reading comprehension narrative text method was
more significant than using lecture method.
