Abstract: This research deals with the use of slang language on social media, specifically TikTok, by Generation Alpha. The purpose of this study was to identify and explain the meanings and types of slang frequently used by these young users in digital interaction. The data sources were taken from 29 slang items found in spoken explanations within TikTok videos. This research applied a descriptive qualitative design, supported by a semantic framework. The analysis shows that the slang words can be categorized into five namely Fresh and Active, Flippant, Imitative, Acronym, and Clipping. Among them, Fresh and Active forms dominate, followed by Imitative, Acronym, Clipping, and a limited number of Flippant forms. The slang words also display semantic shifts, blends, and metaphorical extensions that construct new meanings relevant to short-video communication. These findings indicate that slang in TikTok is dynamic, creative, and adaptive to the platform’s fast-paced interaction. araunderstanding of slang use in digital contexts and to enrich readers’ knowledge of new vocabulary for everyday communication. In the future, the findings may also provide useful insights for educators, linguists, and digital media practitioners in understanding language development among younger generations.
