Abstract:
The objective of this research was to find out the effect of using Venn Diagram
Strategy on the students’ reading descriptive text. This research was conducted at
SMP 58 Muhammadiyah Suka Ramai Medan. By using random sampling
technique descriptive quantitative research was done. The population was divided
into two groups ; the first group (29 students) as the experimental group (VIII –
A), this group was reated by applying Venn Diagram Strategy, and the second
group (29 students) as the control group (VIII – B), used lecturing method. The
instrument for collecting the data was multiple choice test with 20 items. Each
group was given a treatment, pre – test and post – test. The result of this research
showed that t - observed (0,02) was higher than t - table (0,02), and degree of
freedom (df) was 56. It meant there was a significant effect of using Venn
Diagram Strategy on the students’ Reading Descriptive text.
