Abstract: The study deals with the implicit referential meaning in the translation of novel Sherlock Holmes ‘The Sign Of The Four’ into ‘Empat Tanda’ by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The objectives of this study were (1) to find out the types of implicit referential meaning used in the Novel ‘The Sign Of The Four’ into ‘Empat Tanda’, and (2) to find out the dominant type use in the novel ‘The Sign Of The Four’ into ‘Empat Tanda’. This study applied a descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data. The source of data obtained from the novel English version as the source language and the Indonesia version as the target language. The technique of data analyzing used theory of Miles and Huberman, started from the data reduction, data display, and the last conclusion drawing. There were found three types of implicit referential meaning in the translation used in the novel Sherlock Holmes ‘The Sign Of The Four’ into ‘Empat Tanda’, such as: persona referents, demonstrative referents, and comparative referents. The most dominant type used in the novel Sherlock Holmes ‘The Sign of The Four’ into ‘Empat Tanda’ is personal referents (53.06%) followed by demonstrative referents (44.72%) and the last is comparative referents (2.22%).
