dc.description.abstract | In the study of language, what the speaker do by saying something is called speech act. Speech act can be found in real life conversation, but not only can found in real life, it is also found in dialog of script such as novel, story book or movie script. This research deals with the use of speech act produced by the main character in The Equalizer movie script. The objectives of the study were described the types of speech act and analyze the dominant speech act produced by the main character in The Equalizer movie script. In addition, this study was also to found and explained the purpose of the main character using speech act. The research method in this study used descriptive qualitative method. Based on the result of this research, it was found totally 114 speech acts used by main character. There were 43 representatives, 44 directives, 11 commissives, 16 expressives and there were no declarations. The most dominant speech act used by the main character was directives. The main character tends to used directives because he wanted to make the hearer do something based on his said. | en_US |
