This study deals with The Effect of Using Task Based Learning Method by Using
Secret Message Flower Media on the Students’ Achievement in Speaking Skills.
The objectives of this research were to find out the effect of using Task Based
Learning method by using secret message flower media on the students’
achievement in speaking skills and to find out the students’ difficulties in
speaking. The population of this research was the VIII
th
grade students of SMP
Muhammadiyah 07, with the total population were 110 students. And 50 students
were taken as the sample. Cluster random sampling technique was applied in
taking the sample. The total sample consisted of 50 students and the sample was
divided into two group, the experimental group and control group. The instrument
for collecting data in this research was oral test, pre-test and post-test were given
to the both group, experimental and control group. The data were analyzed by
using t-test formula. The finding showed that the students taught by Task Based
Learning method by using secret message flower media got the higher score than
those taught by Discussion method. The result showed that tobserved (6.9) was
higher than ttable (2.01), at a = 0.05 and the degree of freedom (df) = 48. It meant
that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) was
accepted. In conclusion, the students’ achievement in speaking by using Task
Based Learning was more significant than using Discussion method. The
students’ difficulties in speaking English was grammar. It was one of indicators of
speaking that got the lowest score where the total score of vocabulary was 310,
comprehension was 284, pronunciation was 305, fluency was 290 and grammar
was 258. It was because they less practice in tenses, so they got difficulties in
speaking English |
