dc.description.abstract This study deals with the types of grammatical cohesion on the students’ abstract in English Education Department of FKIP UMSU. The objectives of the study were to describe the types of grammatical cohesion and to find out the dominant types of grammatical cohesion on the Students’ Abstract of FKIP UMSU. The source of data were taken from the abstract of the English Department of FKIP UMSU on academic year 2016/2017. From 370 skripsi, 10% or 37 skripsi were taken as the sample by using random sampling. Descriptive qualitative method were applied on this research. The data were analyzed by using Miles and Huberman (2014) theories which consist of 3 (three) steps; data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing/ verification. The finding showed that there were five types of grammatical cohesion found of personal reference, demonstrative reference, additive conjunction, causal conjunction, and temporal conjunction. There were 47 grammatical cohesion used in the students’ abstract which consist of 4 personal reference (8.51%), 4 demonstrative reference (8.51%), 29 additive (61.70%), 6 clausal (12.76%), 4 temporal (8.51%). The most dominant kinds of grammatical cohesion was additive conjunction (61.70%). en_US
