This study dealt with improving the students‟ achievement in reading
comprehension of narrative text by using POSSE Strategy. This research had been
conducted by applying Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subject of this
research was the tenth grade students in SMK TI Harapan Mekar 1 Medan
academic year 2016/2017 which consistedof 33 students. This research involved
quantitative and qualitative data. The quantitative data were taken from the
students‟ scores on reading comprehension, while the qualitative oneswere gotten
from observation of students‟ activities and teacher‟s performance in learning
process.Those data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The research
finding showed that there was improvement of students‟ scores after applying
POSSE strategy. In the pre-test the mean of students‟ score was 57.27 (9.01% of
students got score more than 75). It increased in the post test of first cycle at76.67
(54.55% of students got score more than 75) and at 89.70 (100% of students got
score more than 75) in the second cycle. It indicated that, the students‟ scores
kept improving in every test. It was also found that the students‟ activities and
teacher‟s performance increased in every cycle. In the first cycle, the average
percentage of students‟ activities in the learning process was 49.43% and it
increased to 85.80% in the second cycle. While, the teacher‟s performance in
learning process had improved well, with average percentage at 56.97% in first
cycle and at 83.28% in the second cycle.Based on the results of qualitative and
quantitative data analysis, it was proven that there was effectiveimprovement of
applying POSSEstrategy on the students‟ achievement in reading comprehension. |
