dc.description.abstract The study dealt with the analysis of euphemism in the text speech of JK Rowling. The objectives of this study were to investigate the types and functions of euphemism. This research applied the qualitative study with using content analysis design. The data were collected from the speech text by JK Rowling. There were fourteen data of euphemism. The data collected were analyzed based on Miles and Huberman analysis model including data condensation, data display, and drawing and verifying conclusion. The research findings showed that the speech of JK Rowling applied three types of euphemism namely circumlocution, semantic change and borrowing. While, there were two types of euphemism not realized, namely shortening and remodeling. It was also found that there were only three function of euphemism realized in JK Rowling speech, namely to politeness and convenience, to disguise the meaning, and to carryout religion orders. Two functions of euphemism was not found namely to avoid disaster and to reduce shame. In conclusion, not all the types and functions of euphemism realized in JK Rowling's speech en_US
