A Framing Analysis Of 212 Munajat Night News In The Jakarta Post

Abstract

This study deals with framing analysis of 212 Munajat Night News in the Jakarta Post. The objectives of the study were to explain the categories classifications of framing devices in 212 Munajat Night News in the Jakarta Post article, to find out the processes of framing in packaging 212 Munajat Night News in the Jakarta Post article. This study was conducted by using qualitative research. There were four categories classification of framing devices ; syntactical structure, script structure, thematic structure and rhetorical structure. The data was taken from the Jakarta Post published on 28th February 2019. The findings of this study showed that all of the categories classifications of framing devices are used in the article. First is syntactical structure that involved headline, lead, and background of information, quote, source, statement and closing. Second is script structure that involved 5W1H (What, Where, When, Who, Why, and How). Third is thematic structure that involved paragraph only. And last is rhetoric structure that involved metaphor. The processes of framing in packaging the news, first is syntactical structure (headline, lead, and background of information, quote, source, statement and closing) that used to help the reader in understanding the article without seeing the whole paragraphs. Then script structure (5W1H) that used to make the journalist easier in constructing the article and the reader will get the main point. And thematic structure (paragraphs) used to help the journalist in making the article into the paragraph or main body of the article. Last is rhetoric structure (metaphor) that used to support the article with using the style of language so it will increase the interest of reader in reading the article
