dc.description.abstract This research aims to describe the types of politeness strategies, dominant politeness strategies and the reasons of used politeness strategies in Jimmy Kimmel Live Show. This research uses descriptive qualitative because it seeks to understand a certain phenomenon, namely the politeness strategies used in Jimmy Kimmel Live Show. The data and source of the data was done collect from www.youtube.com. The data were analyzed using interactive model theory by Miles and Hubberman. The approach for analyzing the politeness strategies is based on Brown and Levinson’s Theory of Politeness. There are four politeness strategies that are mentioned by Brown and Levinson, they are Bald on Record, Positive Politeness, Negative Politeness and Off Record. The most dominant politeness strategy used was Positive Politeness with 37.30%. Another dominant politeness strategy used was Bald on Record (28.90%), Off Record (25.58%) and Negative Politeness (9.30 %). It can be concluded that positive politeness strategy is the most dominant strategy used in Jimmy Kimmel Live Show. en_US
