dc.description.abstract This research aimed to improve students‟ reading ability through herringbone technique in reading narrative text. This research analyze how the procedure of herringbone technique can improve the students‟ reading ability. This research was conducted in SMA HARAPAN MEKAR Medan. The subject of this research eleventh grade students which consisted of 31 students. This study applied Classroom Action Research (CAR). There were two cycles to give the students more opportunities to improve their understanding about how to find the main idea and comprehend the pessage well and effectively. The results show that the students‟ reading ability was improved significantly. In the pre-test the mean score was 43.38, in the first cycle test the mean score was 67.09, and in the second cycle the mean score was 87.09. The improvement also can be seen from percentage of the students‟ who passed KKM in reading narrative text, in pre-test 3.22% students got more than 75 point, in the cycle 1 22.58% students got more than 75 point, and in the cycle 2 94% students got point more than 75 point. So, this technique can help students to remember the information and main idea of the text that they have read, the students also could enrich their vocabularies. Based on the results of this study, the researcher recommends using Herringbone technique in reading. en_US
