dc.description.abstract This research was deals with the types of politeness strategy used by male and female teachers in EFL classroom interaction. The objectives of this research were to find out the types of politeness strategy used by male and female teachers, to described politeness strategy realized differently by male and female teachers and to investigated why politeness strategy realized by male and female teachers. Descriptive qualitative method was used in this research. Source of the data was obtained from male and female utterances in the classroom interaction. In collecting the data, the researcher making observation, interview and field note, writing script from the observation, selecting and identifying types of politeness strategy used by male and female teacher in the EFL classroom interaction. The data were analyzed by some steps such as, data reduction, data display, drawing and verifying conclusion. The finding showed four types of politeness strategy used by teachers. The strategies were positive politeness, negative politeness, bald-on record and off record. Positive politeness used by the teachers to consider positive face of the students, negative politeness which was used to deliver utterances in most polite ways, bald on-record used to convey utterances clearly and briefly, off record was used to avoid students’ positive face en_US
