This study aims to elevate the speaking skills of middle high school students in
the context of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) through the use of mini
drama. We used mini drama as a technique to help the students to elevate their
speaking skills, such as pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary, and grammar. This
research utilized a quantitative approach, implementing a pre-experimental design
with a single group for both the pre-test and post-test phases. This study utilized
both documentation and oral tests, which were conducted using short dramas. The
researcher collected data from 27 students in class VIII-1 at SMP Negeri 3 Batang
Angkola, North Sumatra. The research results demonstrated a significant increase
in students' speaking skills following the implementation of the mini drama
method. The average post-test score rose from 70.19 in the pre-test to 80.56 in the
post-test after the introduction of mini drama. A statistical analysis using a paired
t-test revealed a significant difference with a p-value less than 0.05, suggesting
that mini drama effectively increase students' speaking skills. This research
suggests that implementing mini-drama in foreign language learning can increase
students' participation and confidence in oral communication. |
