Abstract: This research was conducted because it was discovered during teaching speaking skills, such as students feeling nervous when speaking English in front of the class. Then in the learning process, the teacher is the center of learning and students play a passive role and students are lacking motivation in learning English speaking. The formulation of the problem in this thesis is does the use of the elicitation technique has significant effect in teaching speaking skill of SMP Muhammadiyah 61 Tanjung Selamat and how is the use of elicitation technique technique has significant effect in teaching speaking skill of SMP Muhammadiyah 61 Tanjung Selamat. The purpose of this research is to find out whether the elicitation technique has significant effect in teaching speaking skill of SMP Muhammadiyah 61 Tanjung Selamat and to describe how the use of elicitation technique give a significant effect in teaching speaking skill of SMP Muhammadiyah 61 Tanjung Selamat. The method in this study uses pretest and posttest as data collection instruments. The data analysis technique of this research is (1) normality test (2) homogeneity test (3) hypothesis test in the form of t-test. Hypothesis testing uses the t test formula, which is preceded by a normality test and homogeneity test. the results of the t test showed that there was a significant effect on fertility, the value of sig (2-tailed) = 0.004 <0.05, then Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. In conclusion, there is significance in using the Elicitation Technique strategy in order to effect teaching speaking skill
