dc.description.abstractThis research was carried out to investigate An Error Analysis in Using Modal Auxiliary Verbs of the Eight Grade Students at SMP Muhammadiyah 05 Medan. The Objectives of the research were 1) to find out the types of errors is made by students in using modal auxiliary verbs, 2) to find out the dominant types of errors is made by students in the uses of modal auxiliary verbs. The population of this research were 8 th grade students at SMP MUHAMMADIYAH 05 MEDAN, which consist of 35 students and distributed one class (VIII-A), and by using total sampling technique, 35 students were taken as sample. This was a class which applied the descriptive quantitative method. The instrument used to collect the data was a test consist of 20 multiple choice. The findings showed the occurences of error addition was 336 or 74.17%, the occurences of error omission was 40 or 8.83%, the occurences of error substituion was 2 or 0.44%, and the occurences of error reordering was 75 or 16.55%, occurences which totaled 453 occurences. The most dominant error made by the students were 336 addition error or about 74.17%.en_US
