dc.description.abstract | The study deals with the study of“Euphemism in the movie To Kill A Mockingbird”. This study attempts to answer the two formulation of the problems, namely: (1) what types of euphemism expressions used in the movie “To Kill A Mockingbird, and (2) what functions of euphemism expressions are used in the movie “To Kill A Mockingbird. In analyzing the types of euphemism in this study, the researcher uses the theory of Euphemism and Dysphemism by Allan and Burridge (2000). This study uses a descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data in form of transcript containing euphemistic expressions used in the movie “To Kill A Mockingbird”.Later the analyzing of the data started from watching the movie “To Kill A Mockingbird” and also reading the script and then selecting and marking the utterances or any expressions that can be identified as euphemisms. The result shown in the movie “To Kill A Mockingbird” used several types of euphemisms : 1 litotes, 1 cirlomcution, 5 hyperbole, 7 metaphor, 4 dysphemism, and 1 associative. The researcher suggests the next researcher develop this research by using a diferrent object such as novel, speech, and also from daily activity or daily conversation. | en_US |
