Title: A Study of Teacher’s Strategies in Teaching Reading Comprehension

Abstract: The objective of this study was to describe the implementation of teacher’s strategies in teaching reading comprehension at junior high school. The research was conducted by qualitative research with naturalistic design. The subject of this study was English Teacher in SMP Swasta Budisatrya Medan. The data were obtained by implementing participant observation and interview. The participant observation was held to investigate the process of the implementation of teacher’s strategies in teaching reading comprehension. Furthermore, the interview was conducted to have in-dept information on the reason of why such strategies conducted in a teching reading comprehension. Thoose data were analyzed by using the model of Donald Ary including coding, data reduction, data display and drawing conclusion. The findings showed that there were five strategies used by teacher in teaching reading comprehension at SMP Swasta Budisatrya Medan, namely Tea Party, Reciprocal Teaching, Fascinating Facts and Jigsaw. It was also found that there were three proceses namely prainstructional, instructional and evaluation, applied by teacher in implementing the teacher strategies of reading comprehension.
