Abstract: | This research deals with reference used in politician response to New Zealand’s Tragedy. The data were analyzed based on three types of reference based on Halliday theory. The objectives of this study were to descibe the dominant types that found in Politician Response and to analyze how is process of reference used in Politician Response to New Zealand’s Trageedy. Descriptive qualitative was used to analyze the data. The result showed that three types of reference found in politician response. The total number of reference found in politician response was 818. The percentage of Personal Reference was 383 (46.82%), Demonstrative Reference was 375 (45.84%), and comparative reference was 60 (7.34%). Basically this research revealed that personal refernces are most dominant types used in politician response. followed by demonstrative reference and the least was comparative reference. The discussion of the process of reference is important to find out the real meaning of what was said in order to avoid any kind of misunderstanding and misinterpretation |
