dc.description.abstractThis study deals with the students’ morphological awareness in using derivational morphemes, the objectives of this study are to find out the students awareness in identifying derivational morpheme and to investigate the students ability to break down the words into morpheme. The research used descriptive qualitative method. The data was taken from the news article of The Jakarta Post entitled Christchurch Muslim struggle shock, fear, New Zealand by doing interview among UMSU students in the 8th semester of English Department as the informants. Based on the result of derivational morphemes in the news article of The Jakarta Post entitled Christchurch Muslim struggle shock, fear, New Zealand, there were 18 derivational morphemes that had to identified and segmented or broke down by the informants to approved their morphological awareness in using derivational morphemesen_US
