Title: The Effect of Applying Audiolingual Method By Using Fairy Tales to the Students’ Achievement in Reading Narrative Text

Abstract: This study deals with the effect of applying audiolingual method by using fairy tales to the students’ achievement in reading narrative text. The objective of the study is to find out whether this technique significantly affected the students’ achievement in reading narrative text. This study was conducted by using experimental design. The population of the study was the students of grade VII of SMP SWASTA HARAPAN MANDIRI Medan in the academic year 2017/2018. There were two classes as the of this research that is VII A (the control group) and VII B (the experimental group). The control group (VII A) was taught by the conventional method and the experimental group (VII B) was taught by using fairy tales technique. The data of the study were obtained from the students’ score of reading test. To determine the data, the researcher used Sugiyono 2015 formula. There are two data that used in this research, they are pre-test and posttest. The data were analyzed by applying t-test formula. After analyzing the data, the result of the study showed that t-value was higher than t-table. The result of this research showed that t- value was higher than t-table in which t-value > ttable, 9 > 1.67155 bat level of significant 0,05 and degree of freedom (df) is 60. It can concluded that audiolingual method significantly affects on the students’ achievement in reading narrative text or in other words the hypothesis is accepted.
