dc.description.abstractThe directive speech act is a kind of speech act where the speaker intends the listener to do something. It is a phrase that includes two phrases, speech and act, and can be categorized into 3 components: locutionary act, illocutionary act and perlocutionary act. Speech function is divided into 5 sorts: command, question, suggestion, request and warning. Speech characteristic is a way of providing thoughts in communicates to make listeners apprehend the thoughts nicely. This study focuses on directive speech acts in Mulan movie, which are accomplished through characters. This study aimed to determine the types of Directive Speech Acts performed by the characters in the movie script. This research is a conversation script of the characters. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research. The object of this research is the movie script. The results showed that there were 5 directive speech acts types found in the Mulan movie. They were command (40,7%), question (40%), request (10%), suggestion (9%), warning (0.3%). Command become dominantly used by Mulan as the main character in “Mulan” movie because command have 47 cases (40.7%). It is the highest positions in the types of directive speech acts.en_US
