Title: LANGUAGE STYLE ON THE DONALD TRUMP’S SPEECH: “CORONA VIRUS OUTBREAK”

Abstract: This study described the language style used in Donald Trump‟s speech “Corona virus Outbreak” on March 12, 2020. The objectives were to figure out the types of language style used in this speech. Determine the dominant types of language style and to elaborate how it used based on Martin Joos. This is descriptive qualitative research which applied documentary technique in gathering the data. The data obtained was analyzed by using Miles and Huberman theory which applied 3 steps; data reducting, data displa, and data concluding. The results shows that they were 4 types of language used in this speec; formal style (53%), casual style (19.9%), consultative style (22.2%), and figurative style (5.4%). Formal style is used in order to make the other people understand ehat the speaker say. Casual style is used to make sure that the listeners feel that their relationship to the speaker is like a friend. Consultative style is to explain the important things the speaker want to say, and the Figurative style is to make the listeners understand the meaning something by virtue its relation to other thing.
