Title: Word Formation Process Found on Ariana Grande’s Song in the Album Positions

Abstract: This study aimed to analysis Ariana Grande‟s song in the album positions to find word formation process that is used. This study used qualitative method. The design of this study was descriptive research. The result of word formation used in song lyrics “Position and Shut Up” showed that 5 borrowing (13,16%), 1 compounding (2,63%), 4 acronym (10,52%), 2 clipping (5,26%), 8 conversion (21,05%), 6 inflection (15,80%), and 12 derivation (31,58%). In analyzing of Ariana Grande‟s song lyrics, the writer found that there were seven types of word formations used which were borrowing, compounding, acronym, clipping, conversion, inflection, and derivation. Derivation become the dominant type in forming the word formation. Based on the findings, the writer concluded that Ariana Grande used word formations in the song lyrics to express her characteristics and to make the music more attractive by changing the meaning of the original word, the song to be familiar to the listener and the utterance is simply daily spoken language. Based on the explanation above, the writer concluded that using Ariana Grande‟s song lyrics in the album “position and shut up” is effective to analyzed word formation process.
