Abstract:
This research is related to the study of the linguistic landscape in four Indonesian
EFL textbooks using the theory of Cenoz and Gorter, which mainly aims to identify
the types of linguistic landscape included in the EFL textbooks in Indonesia and to
describe the characteristics of the linguistic landscape are used in the EFL textbooks
in Indonesia. The data were analyzed using a descriptive qualitative methodology,
focused on linguistic landscape items in Indonesian EFL Textbooks (Grade I, II,
IV, and V) with as many as 116 images. It was made up of monolingual, bilingual,
and multilingual components. There were 100 images used in English-only, which
obligated as the dominant language used in it, 3 images in Bahasa Indonesia-only,
1 in Arabian-only, and 12 in English-Indonesian. The linguistic items displayed
help students get used to English sentences in textbooks because English is an
international language.
