Introduction: Self-assessment of abilities in the learning process has the benefit of knowing one's own strengths and weaknesses. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of self assessment in problem based learning tutorials. The PBL tutorial is a small group discussion that studies about the problems of the diseases that are around. Method: The research method uses the Pretest Posttest With Group Control design. Sampling was done by total sampling and divided into intervention groups and control groups. Results: There was a significant difference in the pretest and posttest scores in the intervention and control groups, on the average value of the intervention and control group tutorials with significance, on the posttest scores between the two groups with p values <0.05. Thus there is the effectiveness of self assessment in the PBL tutorial. The results of self assessment are good for students to know the weaknesses and strengths in the learning process. Conclusion: Self assessment succeeded in increasing student learning motivation so that it showed satisfying learning achievement.
